Pregnant

The cat walked like a drunken sailor on a three day bender for a few steps before plopping heavily onto her side. She was ripe to give birth soon and unable to propel herself more than a few yards at a time.

“There you are.” She felt herself being lifted, swollen belly and all. “We’ve been looking for you. Wait until Annie sees you, you little rascal… You’re a bit fatter than I remember.”

The voice and scent were familiar. She had almost forgotten them… Forgotten she had a home. A home, in which her kittens could be born. A home where she was safe and loved. She purred gently, resting her head on his familiar beard.

Home. They were on their way home.
